“Kraftwerk (German for power station) is a Grammy award nominated, electronic music band from Düsseldorf, Germany. The Kraftwerk sound combines a driving rhythm section with catchy, synthesized melodies and harmony; mainly following a Western classical style of arrangement, accompanied by simple lyrics that are sometimes sung through a vocoder or generated by computer-speech software. The Moog synthesizer is heavily present in the majority of the group’s works, adding to its signature sound creations. In the mid to late 1970s and the early 1980s, the Kraftwerk sound was revolutionary for its time, and it has had a lasting impact across nearly all genres of modern popular music.”

Mai pe romaneste, Kraftwerk sunt 4 nemti cu sintetizatoare care pe la inceputul anilor 70 au creat o muzica ce avea sa inspire multe alte formatii in urmatorii 30 de ani. In momentul de fata, multi dintre DJ-ii de house/electro au creat melodii inspirate din muzica celor patru nemti.

Robots este probabil cea mai cunoscuta melodie de la Kraftwerk si a reprezentat o revolutie in muzica in anul 1977 cand a fost lansata:

Printre acestia ii gasim pe: Gary Numan, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, Human League, Depeche Mode, Devo, Joy Division, Telex, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Giorgio Moroder, New Order, Front 242, Cabaret Voltaire, Art of Noise, Yello, Ultravox, Visage and Thomas Dolby.
David Bowie declara intr-un interviu ca muzica nemtilor a avut o influenta directa asupra melodiilor lui. In 1982 David Bowie a incercat sa realizeze o colaborare cu cei de la Kraftwerk, insa acestia l-au refuzat. De asemenea, ei i-au refuzat si pe Michael Jackson si pe Elton John, care erau in foarte mare voga in perioada respectiva.
